In Abu Dhabi, new traffic regulations are now in place for young drivers with probationary licenses. Starting recently, drivers under the age of 21 who repeatedly reach the maximum traffic points during their probationary period will have their licenses revoked. This means they won’t be able to apply for a new one for a full year.

Under the current system, every time a driver commits a traffic violation, they accumulate traffic points. Check out the full guide on traffic fines and black points in Abu Dhabi.

For those under 21, probationary drivers who accumulate 24 points for the first time will either face a six-month suspension or be required to pay AED 2,400 to attend a traffic rehabilitation course. However, if they reach the 24-point limit again during their trial period, their license will be completely revoked, and they won’t be able to reapply for a new one for one year.

For drivers aged 21 and older with permanent licenses, a first-time accumulation of 24 points results in a three-month suspension or a rehabilitation course. If violations occur again within a year, the suspension increases to six months.

If you’re driving in Abu Dhabi, it’s important to stay informed about the recent changes. In case you missed the news, the city has recently introduced new variable speed limits on Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Street.
