Currently, it takes over six hours to travel between Riyadh and Doha by road, but that will soon change! Saudi Arabia and Qatar have just signed an agreement for a high-speed rail project that will cut the journey time between their capitals to just two hours. The project could be completed in as little as six years, and both countries have ambitious plans for this development.
Here are the first details about the rail network between Riyadh and Doha:
- The rail link will reduce the travel time between Riyadh and Doha to just 2 hours
- Trains will travel at speeds exceeding 300 km/h
- The rail line will cover 785 km, connecting main cities in both Saudi Arabia and Qatar
- Five major stations will be built along the route
- The network is expected to carry over 10 million passengers annually

The new rail line will also link other important Saudi cities like Hofuf and Dammam. Additionally, the project will offer direct connections to two major airports: King Salman International Airport in Riyadh and Hamad International Airport in Doha, making travel between the two countries faster and more convenient for passengers.
Once completed, this high-speed rail will offer more opportunities for both business and tourism. Saudi Arabia is also working on the domestic high-speed rail project Land Bridge, which will connect Jeddah and Riyadh. With the promised travel time of just four hours, it’s set to be a game-changer for locals and tourists.
Stay tuned for more updates on these initiatives and see how the travel in the region becomes better!
