Biography & Career:
Horse Meat Disco is a London DJ collective that turned a small Sunday party into one of the most loved club institutions in the world. The story began on the first day of 2004 at The Eagle, a gay bar in Vauxhall, South London, where the weekly residency remains a fixture. The unusual name came from a partially covered newspaper headline about horse meat discovered in salami.
The collective has four members: Jim Stanton, James Hillard, Luke Howard and Severino Panzetta. Together the DJs built a reputation for long, joyful sets and a dancefloor open to every generation, scene, gender and sexuality. The crew also played a central role in creating NYC Downlow, the pioneering LGBTQ+ space at Glastonbury, back in 2009.
The music genre at the heart of every set is disco, but the selection moves freely into house, funk, soul, Italo and underground dance music, mixing forgotten gems with familiar classics. Residencies in London, Berlin and New York sit alongside tours of the US, Australia, Asia, South Africa and Europe, plus festival stages such as Glastonbury, Love International and Defected Malta.
The discography grew from crate digging into original production. A four-part compilation series for the reissue label Strut became a landmark for rare disco fans, and the debut studio album arrived on Glitterbox in 2020 with guest vocals from disco legends. Later albums and compilations, along with remixes for Jessie Ware, Lykke Li and Duran Duran with Nile Rodgers, keep the sound firmly in the present. Fans can follow upcoming events at residencies, clubs and festivals worldwide and book tickets for the next party. More than twenty years on, the collective is no nostalgia act but a living part of club culture.
