Biography & Career:
Terry Hunter is a Chicago DJ and producer whose name has become shorthand for soulful, uplifting house music. Raised in Chicago, the future producer first heard soul and disco through a father who spun records at a West Side tavern, and by the teenage years was already rocking neighbourhood and high school parties. More than three decades into the game, the veteran shows no sign of slowing down, and age has only added depth to every set.

The debut record arrived in 1990 and became an underground hit, opening the door to remix and production work for Michael Jackson, Mary J. Blige, Aretha Franklin and Jill Scott. In 2004 Hunter launched an independent label to support new talent, and two years later became the first new member of the legendary Chosen Few DJs in nearly 30 years.

Each Grammy nomination has pushed the Chicago sound to a wider audience. The first came in 2015 for producing a Jennifer Hudson single, followed by consecutive nods in 2023 and 2024 in the Best Remixed Recording category for reworks of Beyoncé and Mariah Carey. Although not a singer, Hunter knows exactly how to frame a great voice, and across singles and albums the productions put vocalists such as Byron Stingily, Jamie Principle, Ann Nesby and Chantay Savage front and centre.

Fans know DJ Terry Hunter best from the booth, where every concert or club night turns into a marathon of soulful grooves. Big stages have included the Winter Music Conference in Miami and the Amsterdam Dance Event, and new upcoming events appear regularly in Chicago and around the world. Personal life stays mostly private, and there is no public information about a wife.
