The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced extended Dubai Metro operating hours for Sunday, January 12, ensuring seamless travel for participants and spectators of the Dubai Marathon. The metro will begin operations at 5 AM — three hours earlier than usual — offering a convenient option for early risers heading to the event.
The 24th Dubai Marathon kicks off at 6 AM on January 12, promising an exciting day of fitness and community spirit.
The event, organized under the patronage of the Dubai Sports Council, will take runners through the heart of the city with three race categories: 4 km, 10 km, and 42 km. The start and finish line will be located on Umm Suqeim Road, directly opposite the iconic Madinat Jumeirah, offering participants scenic views as they race through the vibrant streets of Dubai.
This year’s marathon will see the return of former World Marathon champion Lelisa Desisa. The 34-year-old Ethiopian, who holds a personal best time of 2:04:45 from his victory in the 2013 Dubai Marathon, will compete alongside an elite field of international runners.
With thousands of runners expected, significant road closures will be in place along key routes to ensure the safety of participants. Drivers should plan alternate routes and consider using public transportation, such as the metro, to navigate the city.
Since its inception in 1998, the Dubai Marathon has grown into one of the most anticipated sporting events in the region, uniting professional athletes, casual runners, and spectators for a celebration of endurance and camaraderie.
