Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched a large-scale initiative to refresh road markings across the city, covering 89 locations in total as part of its 2025 Preventive Maintenance Plan. The move is designed to boost road safety and improve visibility for both drivers and pedestrians.

The renewal works will span highways, major intersections, and residential neighbourhoods, including the repainting of markings on 50 key roads like Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street, First Al Khail Road, Al Khawaneej Street, and 2nd December Street.

Meanwhile, 39 residential areas — such as Al Barsha, Al Twar, Oud Al Muteena, and Al Sufouh — are also scheduled for upgrades.

Alongside the standard road lines, the project includes:

  • Red surfacing for speed-reduction zones
  • Box junctions at high-traffic intersections
  • Markings for paid parking zones
  • Refreshed lines for speed humps and other traffic-calming measures

According to Abdulla Ali Lootah, Director of Roads and Facilities Maintenance at RTA’s Traffic and Roads Agency, over 30,000 linear metres of markings are expected to be repainted.

The work will use high-durability materials and advanced application techniques to extend the lifespan of the markings while maintaining high standards for safety. The RTA has also implemented strict safety protocols to ensure minimal disruption to traffic flow during the project rollout.

The initiative underscores Dubai’s commitment to maintaining one of the world’s most advanced and well-maintained urban transport networks, supporting safer and more efficient road use for everyone.
