Big changes are coming to Abu Dhabi’s DARB toll system starting September 1, 2025. The city is scrapping the daily and monthly caps, which could impact how much you pay for tolls on public roads.

Here’s what you need to know if driving in the capital:

1. No More Daily or Monthly Caps

Right now, you pay a maximum of AED 16 per day and between AED 100 to AED 200 per month depending on how many vehicles you own. Starting in September, these caps will be removed. That means if you use the toll roads often, your costs could go up.

2. Extended Toll Hours in the Evening

The morning rush hour remains the same from 7 AM to 9 AM, but the evening peak hours are changing. Toll charges will now apply from 3 PM to 7 PM, giving you less time to avoid the fees during the afternoon traffic.

And finally, good news for users of DARB toll system in Abu Dhabi!

3. Exemptions Still Apply

There are no tolls:

  • on Sundays or public holidays
  • for people of determination, seniors, retirees, and low-income families

With these changes coming, it’s a good time to stay on top of the traffic rules. Also, if you drive in the UAE, check out how you can remove 4 black points from your driving license this August. It’s always good to keep your record clean.
