If you share your home with a dog or cat in Abu Dhabi, this update is worth your attention. Animal Owner System is coming into effect, making pet registration mandatory across the emirate. And it isn’t a “someday” task. You’ve got until Tuesday, February 3 to sort it without penalties.

Abu Dhabi Municipality has confirmed that all dogs and cats in the emirate must now be registered under the animal ownership service. This applies to individuals and businesses. If your pet isn’t registered after February 3, you could be fined AED 1,000.

How to Register Your Dog or Cat in Abu Dhabi

Registration is free and handled through the TAMM platform. You can complete it at any licensed veterinary clinic in Abu Dhabi, so there’s no need for extra trips or paperwork runs.

Your pet must be older than 12 weeks to receive a registration certificate and all required vaccinations must be completed first. If your pet is younger, a personal file number is issued until the vaccinations are done and the age requirement is met.

To complete your pet registeration, head to TAMM and log in using your UAE Pass. You’ll need a few documents ready:

  • a reference number
  • a veterinary medical report
  • a commercial licence, if the pet belongs to a business

Once you submit your application, you’ll receive a registration certificate. It’s valid for one year and expires on the same date as the vaccination period. If it isn’t renewed on time, that slip can cost you a AED 500 fine.

But there’s some good news for pet owners. Abu Dhabi has recently updated its laws, allowing pets to join their owners at some hotels and restaurants. It’s a big win for anyone who doesn’t like being apart from their furry friends.
