If you enjoy seeing historic places get a new life instead of disappearing, here’s the project worth your attention! Part of Al-Zal Souq is turning into Azzal Street Food, bringing open-air dining into one of the city’s oldest areas. The plan includes outdoor seating, walkable pathways, and affordable food stalls serving local Saudi dishes.
Al-Zal Souq has been operating since 1901. It’s one of Riyadh’s oldest and most visited markets, known for antiques, traditional carpets, and small heritage finds. In 2005, it was restored to maintain its historic look, and it continues to draw visitors.

Instead of changing what makes the old market special, the Azzal Street Food project adds more space for people to eat and spend time there. You’ll be able to walk around, pick up local food, sit outside, and enjoy it all in the same historic setting.
There’s still no launch date for Azzal Street Food, but if you enjoy exploring different sides of Riyadh, this is one to watch.
This new spot is part of the bigger changes happening in the capital. The city is planning to get its own a fashion district by 2028. And if you prefer your outings on a larger scale, check out The Avenues – Riyadh, it’s expected to become one of the largest malls in the region.
