Seen a cute bird on a wire or a colorful bug on the pavement and kept walking? This weekend, that photo actually counts. From April 24 to 27, Dubai Wildlife Photo Challenge invites anyone in the city to head outside and capture the wildlife around them.

Whether you’re in a park, walking down the street, at the beach this weekend, if you spot a plant, bird, insect or animal, take a photo and upload it to iNaturalist. The app is available at App Store and GooglePlay.

This wildlife hunt is a great family weekend plan, and kids can learn a lot about what lives around them in the city.

Last time, participants in Dubai shared more than 1,300 images, capturing species like purple sunbirds, damselflies, sand geckos, scorpions and salmon Arab butterflies. It’s surprising how much you can spot when you start paying attention.

The same challenge is happening in hundreds of cities at the same time, so you’re joining a global nature hunt. Each photo goes into a shared database that scientists use to track wildlife living in the city.

You can take part anytime between April 24 and 27, anywhere in Dubai. Happy photo hunting!
