21grams, the much-loved homegrown Balkan bistro in Umm Suqeim, is expanding its footprint with two new concepts set to open at Alserkal Avenue. Known for its soulfood, understated setting, and consistent recognition on the Michelin Bib Gourmand list (2025 marked the third year in a row), 21grams continues to draw in regulars for breakfast, lunch, or a casual dinner.

Now, the brand is opening Piehaus, a specialty Balkan pie shop and café. While details are still limited, the focus will be on the kind of pies that are often the heart of Balkan cuisine — think flaky phyllo dough wrapped around savoury fillings like cheese, spinach, or potato, and occasionally sweet versions layered with pumpkin, apples, or cherries.

Pair those with coffee and the casual energy of Alserkal Avenue, and you’ll see why this place would quickly become a frequent spot for daytime bites.

Also in the works is Etar, a catering and design studio that will bring together conceptual catering, food couture, tablescaping, and creative design. It’s a new direction for the team, but one that keeps with their signature approach: thoughtful, detail-driven, and community-minded. More information is expected soon, but the concept already hints at a fresh take on food presentation and event experiences in Dubai.

If you’re planning a trip to Alserkal Avenue soon, there’s more to keep an eye out for. Soon-to-open Middle Child will offer casual dining, a cookbook shop, and a gourmet grocery section — all under one roof. And while you’re there, don’t miss the Summer Collective: Wavering Hope exhibition at Ayyam Gallery, where Syrian artists explore themes of resilience, memory, and hope through contemporary art.

Stay tuned for more updates as Piehaus and Etar open their doors later this year.
