The Riyadh Public Transport Company has announced the launch of two additional stations on the Orange Line of the Riyadh Metro, continuing the steady expansion of Saudi Arabia’s flagship public transportation project. The newly opened Railway Station and Jarir District Station are now fully operational.

The Orange Line — officially known as Line 3 — runs for 40.7 kilometres, connecting Medina Road in the west to Prince Saad bin Abdulrahman I Road in the east. With these new stops, the metro’s reach extends deeper into densely populated neighborhoods, offering smoother transit flows and reducing travel times for thousands of residents.

This development marks the final phase in the gradual rollout of the six-line Riyadh Metro network. The entire system became fully operational on January 5, 2025, following the initial launch of the Blue, Yellow, and Purple lines in early December 2024, and the Red and Green lines shortly after.

Now spanning 176 kilometres and consisting of 85 stations, including four key interchange hubs, the Riyadh Metro stands as the largest rapid transit system in the Middle East. It also holds the record as the world’s longest driverless train network.

The numbers reflect strong public uptake:

  • more than 18 million passengers used the metro within the first 2.5 months of operation
  • the system completed over 162,000 trips
  • a total of 4.5 million kilometres were covered

Operated under the supervision of the Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC), the metro network continues to serve as a cornerstone of the Kingdom’s push for sustainable urban mobility.
