Dubai Police is stepping up road safety with AI-powered traffic cameras that will detect major violations in 2025. If you’re driving in Dubai, here’s what you need to know to avoid fines, black points, and even having your vehicle impounded.

Speeding Fines

AI-assisted cameras will accurately track your speed, and the faster you go, the bigger the penalty:

  • Over 80 km/h above the limit: AED 3,000 fine, 60-day vehicle impoundment, 23 black points
  • Over 60 km/h: AED 2,000 fine, 20-day impoundment, 12 black points
  • Over 50 km/h: AED 1,000 fine
  • Over 40 km/h: AED 700 fine
  • Over 30 km/h: AED 600 fine
  • Over 20 km/h: AED 300 fine

If you accumulate 24 black points, your driving license will be suspended for 3 months to a year.

Red Light Violations

Running a red light will cost you AED 1,000, a 30-day vehicle impoundment, and 12 black points.

Earlier in February, RTA announced the plans to introduce smart traffic lights by mid-2026, also powered by AI. The system will be installed at key intersections, using real-time data to adjust signal timings and reduce congestion.

Wrong-Way Driving & Lane Violations

  • Driving against traffic: AED 600 fine, 7-day impoundment, 4 black points
  • Improper lane usage (light vehicle): AED 400 fine
  • Improper lane usage (heavy vehicle): AED 1,500 fine, 12 black points

Seatbelts & Phone Use

  • Not wearing a seatbelt: AED 400 fine, 4 black points
  • Using a phone while driving: AED 800 fine, 4 black points
  • Exceeding window tint limit: AED 1,500 fine

Keeping a Safe Distance & Noise Violations

  • Tailgating (not maintaining safe distance): AED 400 fine, 4 black points
  • Excessive vehicle noise: AED 2,000 fine, 12 black points

Pedestrian & Parking Violations

  • Not giving way to pedestrians at crossings: AED 500 fine, 6 black points
  • Stopping in the middle of the road (without a valid reason): 6 black points
  • Blocking another vehicle’s movement: AED 500 fine

Heavy Vehicles & Restricted Areas

  • Entering prohibited areas (heavy vehicles): AED 1,000 fine, 4 black points

Expired License Penalty

  • Driving with an expired license: AED 500 fine, 4 black points
