Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has unveiled plans for significant infrastructure improvements in Al Awir 1, designed to ease traffic congestion and improve road safety. The project includes the construction of 16.5 km of internal roads and enhancements to key access points in the area.
Key Features of the Project
- New entrance from Emirates Road: A 4-km lane will be added to Emirates Road, extending from Al Awir 1 to Sharjah. This expansion is expected to boost the road’s capacity by 16%, helping to accommodate more vehicles and reduce delays.
- Internal road network: Within Al Awir 1, 7.5 km of new roads will connect the area to Emirates Road, improving accessibility for residents and commuters. Additionally, 5 km of internal roads will be built within the Mohammed bin Rashid Housing Establishment residential project to streamline traffic flow.
- Improved intersections and roundabouts: New intersections, roundabouts, and U-turns are planned near Emirates Road. These enhancements aim to ensure smoother traffic movement and safer navigation for drivers.
- Increased capacity at access points: The capacity of access points to the area will double, accommodating up to 3,000 vehicles per hour, compared to the current limit of 1,500 vehicles per hour.
This project aligns with the RTA’s broader efforts to improve infrastructure across Dubai’s residential areas. Recent developments include road enhancements in neighborhoods like Al Warqa, Nadd Hessa, Wadi Al Safa 3, and Al Barsha South.
By focusing on strategic road development, Dubai continues to address the needs of its growing population, reduce travel times, and enhance safety across the emirate.
