This winter, City Walk is transformed into a dazzling outdoor gallery with Dubai Lights: The Spark Within, an extraordinary light art exhibition running from December 6 to January 12, as part of the Dubai Shopping Festival. Residents and visitors are invited to explore ten remarkable light-based installations by world-renowned artists, with each installation designed to amaze, engage, and inspire audiences of all ages. Best of all — it’s free to attend!
These immersive pieces have garnered international acclaim, some having been previously exhibited at Amsterdam Light Festival, and they’re making their Dubai debut with vibrant displays of color and light. Perfect for photography enthusiasts, families, and art lovers, each installation offers a unique visual and interactive experience, allowing visitors to capture unforgettable moments.
Some standout installations include Koros Design’s Bunch of Tulips, a playful, inflatable piece that brings a pop-art twist on the 17th-century Dutch tulip craze. For those seeking tranquility, The Sphere 3D by conceptual light artist Clifton Mahangoe offers a mesmerizing sphere of light standing three meters tall.
In addition, visitors can experience the world-famous Submergence, a walk-through light experience by Squidsoup, which has captivated audiences in over 70 locations around the globe. UxU Studio also returns with two stunning displays: Tornado, capturing the swirling motion of a cyclone, and Desire, a striking pair of illuminated red lips formed from 1,500 individual lights.
More highlights include Run Beyond by Italian artist Angelo Bonello, depicting the boundless spirit of imagination, and Never Ends by Luigi Console and Valentina Novembre, featuring a single glowing horse for visitors to “ride” into a fantastical world. Another must-see is NEST, an intricate piece from Indian designer Vikas Patil, and the LightPiano, which combines video mapping with classical music in an enchanting audiovisual show by the duo Kleurbleur.
Bringing a futuristic touch, Angela Chong’s C/C offers a thought-provoking, interactive sculpture to conclude the lineup. With each of these ten installations scattered across City Walk, visitors are encouraged to explore, engage, and immerse themselves in the art, making Dubai Lights a can’t-miss highlight of the season.
