Getting around Dubai on foot is not easy. But that’s exactly what a new project is trying to change. Meet Dubai Walk, a long-term plan to build more than 6,000 km of walkways across the emirate. The project has now started, with Phase I taking place in Al Ras, one of the city’s oldest districts.
This first phase is focused on making the area easier to walk through. Here’s what’s being added:
- 12 km of pedestrian walkways
- 5 km of cycling tracks
- wider pavements
- shaded sections
- seating areas
Another part of the project is the rehabilitation of 10 artistic spaces in Al Ras, done in coordination with Dubai Culture and Arts Authority and involving Emirati and local artists.
The routes will connect to 11 metro, bus, and marine stations, making it easier to switch between walking and public transport. Work on Phase I will continue until 2027, after which the project will expand further across the emirate.
If you’re based in Dubai, this is one of those changes that could actually affect your daily routine over time. You can also take a look at The Loop, the planned air-conditioned walking network, or explore other Dubai 2040 projects that feel like they’re straight out of the future.
