Some heartwarming news just came out of Dubai Safari Park, and it might make your day. A baby white rhino was born there on March 1, and he’s already stealing the spotlight. His name is Salam, which means “peace” in Arabic.
White rhinos are the second-largest land mammals on Earth. At birth, Salam weighed 73.5 kg and is a healthy baby. He’s already on his feet, walking around, and sticking close to his mum, Olive, who is doing well and settling into motherhood.
It’s a special moment not just for the park, but for the wildlife as well. There are only around 15,700 white rhinos left in the wild, and the number continues to decline. Salam is the second calf born at this park, following Onyx in 2024. Both births are part of the park’s endangered species breeding programme.
Dubai Safari Park is currently closed as a precautionary safety measure. When it reopens, don’t hesitate to visit and say hi to Salam and his family at African Village.
And if you’re in the mood for more feel-good updates, there’s also a new pay-it-forward dining concept in Dubai where everyone can buy a coffee or a simple meal for a stranger.
