Starting June 18, 2025, travellers in the UAE applying for Schengen visas to France or Germany will need to complete an online Visa Application Form when scheduling their appointment on VFS Global’s portal.

This change was announced by VFS Global to streamline the appointment system and reduce errors. The new form requirement is mandatory and must be filled out as part of the booking process — marking a shift from the previous method, where applicants could schedule a time slot first and submit the application form later.

What’s Changing for UAE-Based Applicants:

  • The online application form is now integrated into the appointment scheduling system
  • This applies only to visa applications for France and Germany, booked via the VFS Global platform
  • Travellers will no longer be able to secure an appointment without completing the online form first

Applicants are reminded to check the embassy or consulate website of the country where they will spend the most time during their trip, as the application process may differ slightly between countries.

This new step does not apply to UAE citizens, who enjoy visa-free short stays in the Schengen zone. However, it is crucial for non-citizen residents of the UAE who still require a Schengen visa for travel. Authorities continue to encourage travellers to apply early, as appointments and processing times are handled on a first-come, first-served basis.

Meanwhile, travellers eyeing trips to China should take note: a new visa procedure has been introduced there as well. Stay tuned for more on what’s changing for outbound travel from the UAE.
