Starting today, March 24, the UAE’s new AED 100 (one hundred dirhams) polymer banknote is officially in circulation. The Central Bank of the UAE (CBUAE) has introduced this updated version with modern security features and a fresh design while keeping the familiar red color scheme.
The new banknote will be used alongside the existing AED 100 notes, whether paper or polymer. Banks and exchange centers have been instructed to update their machines so they can process the new notes smoothly.
Polymer banknotes are more durable and eco-friendly than traditional paper notes. They last twice as long, making them a more sustainable choice.
New AED 100 polymer banknote design reflect the UAE’s growth, from its cultural history to its role as a modern economic powerhouse:
- Front side features the Umm Al Quwain National Fort, a historical landmark symbolizing the UAE’s rich heritage.
- Back side has the Port of Fujairah on it, a key maritime and trade hub, along with Etihad Rail, which connects all seven emirates and links to the wider GCC region.
Additionally, Braille symbols are included, making it easier for visually impaired individuals to identify the banknote. To prevent counterfeiting and ensure trust in the currency, the new AED 100 banknote includes:
- SPARK Flow DIMENSIONS – a high-tech color-shifting security feature.
- KINEGRAM COLORS – a multi-colored security chip for authenticity.
The new AED 100 note is part of the CBUAE’s Third Issuance of National Currency, a project aimed at enhancing security, durability, and design across the country’s banknotes. With this new release, the UAE continues to modernize its currency while honoring its history and future ambitions.
