Uber has rolled out a new feature in Saudi Arabia that gives women riders the option to be matched only with female drivers. The move is part of the company’s wider efforts to boost women’s participation in the workforce and expand access to safe, flexible job opportunities in the mobility sector.

The new ride option, called Women Drivers, functions similarly to the existing UberX service. Riders can book a trip on-demand or schedule one up to 30 minutes in advance through Uber Reserve. The feature is being gradually introduced across the country and will be visible to women riders in the Uber app over the coming weeks.

This update follows significant changes in Saudi Arabia’s transport landscape. Seven years ago, the Kingdom lifted the ban on women driving, and since then, more women have taken the wheel both literally and professionally.

Uber’s latest launch is aligned with Saudi Vision 2030, which outlines goals for enhancing women’s economic inclusion.

In addition to the new feature, Uber is hosting Saudi Arabia’s first-ever GigSister event, a platform that supports female drivers by connecting them with peers and offering a space to share experiences and build a local support network.

As the country moves toward a more inclusive transport ecosystem, there’s more change on the horizon. Self-driving taxis might be coming to Saudi cities soon. With all these introductions, the future of mobility in the Kingdom is about to change for better.
