If you rely on an e-scooter to move around Dubai, or you use one while visiting the city, there’s a practical update worth knowing. Roads and Transport Authority has expanded the permit service beyond its website. You can now request e-scooter riding permit via RTA app or through Dubai Now app.

The service is already active. Here’s how it works:

  • Apply online through RTA website, RTA Dubai app, or Dubai Now app
  • Complete a short theory test covering riding rules and safety basics
  • Once you pass, the permit is issued electronically through RTA’s smart channels
  • You can then legally ride e-scooters in areas approved by RTA

Just a reminder that riders with a valid UAE or international driving licence don’t need to obtain the permit.

Planning to request an e-scooter riding permit in Dubai? These are the main conditions to keep in mind:

  • Minimum age is 17 years
  • E-scooters may only be used in designated zones and on dedicated tracks
  • Approved areas include Downtown Dubai, Jumeirah, and Palm Jumeirah
  • Riding is not allowed in Saih Al Salam, Al Qudra, or Al Meydan

Riding without a permit, going outside authorised areas, or skipping a helmet can all lead to penalties.

If you rely on public transport as well, you’ll be pleased to know that free Wi-Fi is now available at 43 public transport stations across the city and on all 259 intercity buses from Dubai. Together, these changes show how small solutions can make a real difference for both residents and visitors.
