British DJ and producer Fatboy Slim is truly one of the world’s first superstar DJs. With numerous chart successes, award-winning productions and sell-out shows across the globe, Fatboy Slim is widely regarded as one of the key pioneers of house music and dance music in reaching the masses and changing the genre over the years.
Fatboy Slim began to DJ in the Brighton club scene in the 1980s, whilst dance music was still in its infancy. His first chart success came in the band The Housemartins, where their two albums charted well, with the 1986 single ‘Caravan of Love’ becoming the Christmas number one that year. Fatboy Slim went on to pursue solo projects before finally adopting the famous pseudonym in 1996.
It was under this new name that he began to produce mainstram house hits such as ‘The Rockafeller Skank’ and ‘Praise You’, which began his first Number One hit. The music video, directed by Spike Jonze, was also highly rated and won the MTV Video Music Award for Breakthrough Video in 1999.
Fatboy Slim continued to create music, releasing his third album ‘Halfway Between the Gutter and the Stars’ in 2000. The album again performed well and the lead single, ‘Weapon of Choice’ won numerous awards including the Grammy Award for Best Short Form Music Video.
Since then, Fatboy Slim has released a greatest hits album and has collaborated with many of dance music’s top artists. He has primarily become known for his energetic performances, dancing on stage in front of thousands of fans, and performing at many of the genre’s top clubs and festivals including Tomorrowland in Belgium and Uktra Music Festival in Miami. His most notable performances include the Big Beach Boutique II in Brighton to over 250,000 people and at the closing ceremony of the 2012 London Olympics to over 750 million people worldwide.
