Armenian conductor Sergey Smbatyan learned to play the violin at the age of 4. He won international violin competitions in Romania, Japan and Italy at the age of 13. 

In 2010, Smbatyan made his conducting debut in London with the Philharmonia Orchestra as part of a charity concert organized by HRH Prince Charles which was held at Windsor Castle.

From 2018-2019, he conducted several orchestra performances such as the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra at Carnegie Hall in New York, the Strathmore Music Center, the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts in Philadelphia and the Moscow State Conservatory among others.
