When she was young, she participated in figure skating and attended a math-focused school at Kazan Federal University from eighth grade. Initially accepted into Kazan State Finance and Economics Institute, she later decided to attend Kazan Theater School instead.
With the guidance and support of her teachers Juno Kareva and Vadim Keshner, who recognized her potential as an actress, Khamatova was encouraged to pursue further studies in Moscow at the Russian Institute of Theatre Arts, where she took classes taught by Alexei Borodin.
Khamatova went on to perform at various theaters in Moscow, including the Russian Academic Youth Theater (where she played Dunya Raskolnikova in Crime and Punishment and Anne Frank in Anne Frank's Diary), the Theater of the Moon, the Anton Chekhov Theater (as Katya in Pose of the Immigrant), and the Open Theater Julia Malakyants (as Silvia).
