Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty is a classical Hindustani singer, composer and Guru who has established himself as one of the leading names in his genre through his unique renditions of songs and timeless performances since his career began in 1977.
Born in Kolkata, Chakrabarty was a high achieving music student and used his early life to study and learn from a few Gurus, including Padmabhushan Pandit Jnan Prakash Ghosh. It was through these teachings that he was able to further develop his style.
To date Chakrabarty has recorded over 100 albums which have been released around the world and have earned him widespread praise. Chakrabarty also founded Shrutinandan, a musical institution which focuses on preserving Indian raga music and has turned into a 1000+ community of musical enthusiasts and upcoming talents.
Chakrabarty has also contributed numerous singles to India’s flourishing movie industry. Starting with his first movie credit in 1985 on Baidurjya Rahasya, he has gone on to work with the likes of A.R. Rahman and Gautam Ghose.
The veteran musician has also been formally recognised several times for his work and contributions to Hindustani music. In 1989 he received the National Film Award for Best Male Playback Singer and in 2011 the President of India awarded him the Padma Shri.
Chakrabarty’s exciting career has taken him across the globe where he has performed at many of Hindustani music’s top festivals and events as well as taking him to some of the most prestigious venues in the world including Carnegie Hall, The Kennedy Centre and The Royal Albert Hall.
