German DJ and producer Ellen Allien is one name that that is well respected and praised in the techno music scene. With a career that has stretched over 25 years she has released numerous singles and albums and has performed all over the world.
Having found a love for electronic music in London she moved back to her home city, Berlin, in the early 90s and quickly fit into the growing techno scene. Allien became a resident DJ at Bunker, Tresor and E-Werk, three of Berlin’s premium nightclubs. She has continued her residency throughout the years and today is a regular at clubs such as DC10 in Ibiza and Nitsa in Barcelona.
Allien released her debut, self-titled EP in 1995, the first of many high-quality productions. During her early career, she set up a regular radio show on Kiss FM and set up two successful record labels, Braincandy and BPitch Control.
Allien’s first full studio album, Stadtkind, was released in 2001, but she became more highly acclaimed with her second album, Berlinette, which came out in 2003. The album was praised by Pitchfork Media and AllMusic, earning 4 and a half stars out of 5.
She continued to release several EPs, singles and Albums, over the years, each one growing her fan-base and earning her respect within the industry. 2005 saw the release of ‘Thrills before Orchestra of Bubbles’ in 2006, 2008’s ‘Sool’, ‘Dust’ in 2010 and, most recently, ‘LISm’ in 2013.
