Alongside a number of South Indian playback singers from the early 80s, S.P. Sailaja has made her mark in the South Indian film industry, with approximately 5,000 tracks to her credit in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada languages. Her versatility made her a favourite amongst many directors and especially since her start was with legendary music composer Ilayaraaja for the film “Ponnu Oorukku Pudhusu” on the track ‘Solai Kuyile’.
While Sailaja was born and raised in an orthodox family, she got the blessing from her family to enter the show business industry, after having to cross many conservative restrictions. The fact that her brother ‘S.P. Balasubramanian’ was in the business as well, may have. Despite having such a widely recognized sibling, Sailaja made her own name and was successful in her own right. In addition to singing, Sailaja has acted in a handful of movies in Telugu and Tamil and is a notable dubbing artist too.
