Jennifer Lopez, popularly known as J.Lo. is an American singer, actress, dancer, producer and designer. Born in South Bronx in 1969, Lopez is the middle of three musically inclined sisters. She started to learn music and dance at the age of five and always dreamed of becoming a superstar. Following several small gigs including a casting in a low-budget film My Little Girl in 1986, casting in regional productions of popular musicals and back up dancing in New Kids on the Block in 1991, Lopez bagged her first high-profile job as a dancer on the television programme In Living Colour, in which she eventually became a regular cast member until 1993.
Lopez’s 1999 single, ‘If You Had My Love’ which reached number one in 6 countries, and made her the first artist to top the Billboard Hot 100 after Britney Spears’ Baby One More Time that was on the charts for four months. That same year, she recorded her first album On the 6, which also featured hit Waiting for Tonight. Her second album, J.Lo, released in 2001, sold 3.8 million copies in America and became her career best seller.
J.Lo has featured in several hit films throughout her career including Shall We Dance alongside Richard Gere and Monster-in-Law alongside Jane Fonda and has lent her voice to Shira in the animated film Ice Age in 2012 and 2016. She has released 8 albums and 49 singles and has sold 75 million records worldwide.
With earnings of $38 million, Forbes has named Lopez as the 11th highest paid female celebrity between June 2016 and June 2017. She continues to design, act and make music, with her newest project as starring in comedy film Mothers Id Like To for which she will also serve as a producer.
