Pousi is one of the most recognisable voices in Egyptian shaabi music, a performer who went from village wedding stages to cinema screens in under a decade. Behind the stage name is Yasmin Mohamed Shaaban, and the story starts early and rough: she was singing at popular weddings around her home province by the time she was sixteen, then took steady work in the cabarets of Pyramids Street in Cairo. That grind ran for years before anything resembling fame arrived.

The turning point came in 2012, with a track recorded for the comedy film Al-Almany that jumped straight from the soundtrack into weddings, microbuses and street speakers across the country. Almost overnight the singer became a fixture of the shaabi scene, booked for private parties and concerts nationwide, and the momentum pushed Pousi towards acting. Comedy films followed, including Esh El Bolbol, along with a first television role in the series Halet Eshq.

The appeal has always been the delivery rather than polish. A big, unfiltered voice, sharp comic timing and an easy warmth on camera turned an Egyptian singer from the wedding circuit into a household name, and the same qualities carried over to screen work. Personal life has drawn as much coverage as the music.
