Trinidadian-born English singer Billy Ocean is one of the most memorable names in R&B. With several chart-topping hits in the UK and US, Billy Ocean’s career has taken him all over the world as he has sold millions of copies after almost 50 years in show business.
From a young age Ocean was exposed to music and began practising, playing and performing all over London. Real success came in 1976 with the release of his first single Love Really Hurts Without You, which hit No 22 in the US and dropped in at second in the UK. Oceancontinued to perform across the UK and had further success with his 1984 hit Caribbean Queen, which took the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 and ultimately went on to win Ocean the 1985 Grammy Award for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance, making him the first British artist to win the category.
Ocean repeated his chart topping success with When the Going Gets Tough, the Tough Get Going, reaching No. 1 in the UK and 2 in the US, and There’ll Be Sad Songs, which was No. 1 in the US.
Ocean has a total of 10 studio albums to his name, most recently in 2013 with Here You Are. He has reached Platinum status a total of eleven times in the UK, US and Canada, as well as reaching top certifications in Australia.
The star has conducted a number of international tours during his career. Despite his age, he continues to perform around the world and draws crowds of thousands of fans, for many of whom he provided the iconic soundtracks to their teenage years.
