After a series of diplomatic breakthroughs, China and India have announced they will restart direct flights between the two countries. This decision follows a visit by Beijing’s foreign minister, Wang Yi, who wrapped up his trip to India before heading to Pakistan.

Along with the return of direct flights, China and India also agreed to:

  • Resume the issuance of tourism visas
  • Increase trade between the two countries

The two sides have agreed to continue boundary demarcation negotiations, and there are plans to reopen three border trade markets, which is expected to boost cross-border trade. As a sign of growing cooperation, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi plans to visit China later this August — his first visit since 2018.

On another positive note, India’s passport has significantly improved its ranking in the Henley Passport Index 2025, making it easier for Indian citizens to access visa-free destinations. For those planning to visit China, there’s now a new procedure when applying for a visa, so be sure to check the latest requirements before making any travel plans!
