Working in Oman as an expat? There are changes coming this July that may affect you. Sick leave and extraordinary leave insurance is becoming mandatory for many employees. Here’s what you need to know.

From July 20, 2026, certain groups of expat workers in Oman must have compulsory sick leave and extraordinary leave insurance under a new decision issued by the Social Protection Fund (SPF).

The new requirement applies to expat workers employed by:

  • Public legal entities
  • Private sector companies covered by the Labour Law

The new requirement does not apply to domestic workers or other expat workers who are not covered by the Labour Law.
