One of football’s most famous names is starting a new chapter in the UAE. After finishing his playing career, Andrés Iniesta is returning to UAE football as the new head coach of Gulf United FC ahead of the 2026/27 season.

Andrés Iniesta hardly needs an introduction. The Spanish midfielder spent 22 years at Barcelona FC, winning four UEFA Champions League titles, nine La Liga trophies, and numerous other honours.

UAE football fans know him well, too. Iniesta spent the final season of his playing career with Emirates Club FC, making 20 appearances and scoring five goals before retiring from professional football. His next challenge will come from the sidelines, coaching Gulf United FC in the UAE First Division.

Iniesta said Gulf United FC feels like the right place to begin this new chapter.

“Football has given me everything, and now I want to give something back through coaching, through learning, and through working every day with young players who have the hunger and the talent to go far.”

Football fans have spent years watching Andrés Iniesta dictate games from midfield. Now, all eyes will be on his first steps in management. Welcome back to the UAE, Andrés. It seems your football story here isn’t over just yet.
