Indian playback singer Aastha Gill is rapidly becoming a fan favourite in the Bollywood community. A career that started in 2015, Gill made a name for herself from the very beginning and has become known as one of the most exciting prospects in the business.
Originating from Delhi, she came into the limelight with the hugely popular Dhup Chik, which she sang alongside rising superstar rappers Raftaar and Badshah. The song was part of the soundtrack for the 2014 movie Fugly.
Continuing her work with Badshah, Aastha Gill had another movie hit with Abhi Toh Party Shuru Hui Hai, from Khoobsurat. DJ Wale Babu, a follow up song, became a hit amongst younger listeners and received considerable praise across the board whilst also reaching over 7 million hits on YouTube within a month of its release and it has since gone on to cross over one hundred million views to date.
Despite coming from a conservative background, Gill’s career has been attributed to her father’s inspiration and her passion for music. Her musical style comes from a combination of new generation Bollywood hits and hip-hop, a genre that is recently taking on a new and more widely appreciated form in the country.
