Biography & Career

Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner CBE, more widely recognized as Sting, is a highly accomplished English musician and actor. His journey to fame commenced as the lead vocalist, songwriter, and bassist for the new wave band known as the Police, a role he occupied from 1977 until their disbandment in 1986. In 1985, Sting ventured into a solo career, demonstrating a remarkable musical versatility by incorporating elements of rock, jazz, reggae, classical, new-age, and worldbeat into his compositions.

His impressive musical odyssey has earned him a multitude of prestigious awards, including 17 Grammy Awards, a Golden Globe, an Emmy, and four Academy Award nominations for Best Original Song. Sting's profound influence on the music industry has also been acknowledged through accolades such as the Ivor Novello Award for Lifetime Achievement, his induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, and his enshrinement in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the Police. His outstanding contributions to music were further recognized when he received the CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire) from Queen Elizabeth II. In 2014, he was honored with the Kennedy Center Honors, and in 2017, he received the esteemed Polar Music Prize. Adding to his long list of accolades, Sting was granted the title of Ivor Novello Fellow in May 2023, underscoring his enduring and exceptional career in music.
