There is much to be said about award winning songstress, K.S. Chithra, who hails from Kerala-India. With over 25,000 songs sung in a span of nearly 4 decades, very few Indian playback singers come close to the feats that Chithra has achieved in her professional career.
Having begun her singing career in native-tongue Malayalam, Chithra, also dubbed as the ‘Nightingale of Kerala’ for her supremely sweet and melodic voice, soon gained popularity and was cast for almost every soundtrack in the industry. Surely, with music being its own universal language, the fact that these first tracks were in Malayalam did not stop music directors from all over the country signing her up for their movie soundtracks too. One of these was Academy Award winning music composer A. R. Rahman, with whom she is said to have recorded the highest number of female playback tracks, in multiple languages at that.
In addition to studio time, Chithra packs concert floors with fellow playback singers around the world several times over. She is also one amongst a panel of judges for a few reality TV shows showcasing singing talents, mostly from South India. Despite this legendary status and lengthy career, Chithra is still known as humble, shy and highly philanthropic and this is evident even in her screen & stage presence.
