American DJ and electro house musician Steve Aoki has established himself as one of dance music’s most exciting and entertaining talents. Praised for his live performances which include cake-throwing and crowd-surfing, Aoki has also made waves with his productions, many of which have topped the Beatport charts and have received support from DJs around the world.
The son of wrestler and Benihana founder, Rocky Aoki, Steve grew up in Miami before pursuing a music career that began with the founding of his Dim Mak record label in 1996. The label has grown to become a large influencer of electronic music and has released music from MSTRKRFT, The Bloody Beetroots and Infected Mushroom amongst many others.
Aoki’s big break came at the start of the 2010s when the electronic music genre began to breakthrough onto mainstream airwaves around the world and in the US. His collaboration with Black Eyed Peas’ will.i.am, performing under the alter-ego Zuper Blahq, entitled ‘I’m in the House’, became a huge hit and saw Aoki gain popularity in clubs and festivals that summer.
Aoki released his debut album Wonderland in 2012. The album featured vocals and collaborations with numerous well-known names including LMFAO, Kid Cudi and Travis Barker and went on to be nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Dance/Electronica Album. Aokihas since released three further albums all named Neon Future, parts I to III.
Whilst enjoying success with his productions, charting numerous times in many countries, Aoki has also performed at many of the world’s top festivals including Ultra Music Festival in Miami, Tomorrowland in Belgium and Electronic Daisy Carnival in Las Vegas. He has also been recognised by the DJ Mag Top 100 DJs Poll a number of times, peaking at 7th place most recently in 2016.
