Indian actor, singer and stuntman Arun Vijay is one of the top names in Tamil film. With a career that has spanned over 3 decades, Vijay has been a star in many of the regions most famous films.
Born in Chennai, Vijay is the son of Vijayakumar, a veteran film actor in Tamil Nadu. Vijay quickly found that his film family was a huge influence on his life. His elder sisters starred in Coolie and his step-mother and half-sisters also followed similar career paths. It wasn’t long before Vijay made his acting debut in 1995’s Murai Mappillai, when he was just 18 years old.
He continued to act in a number of films for the remainder of the 1990s, starring in the Kathirunda Kadhal, Ganga Gowri and Thillu Thirintha Kaalam amongst others. In 2000 he again reunited with fellow actors Senthil, Goundamani and Suvalakshmi in Anbudan and Kannaal Pesavaa.
In his 22 year career, Vijay has acted in over 15 films, but it was his role in the 2015 film Yennai Arindhaal that earnt him the most praise, earning a nomination for Best Supporting Actor – Tamil at the Filmfare Awards as well as winning the SIIMA Award for Best Actor in a Negative Role and the Edison Award for Best Villain.
More recently, Vijay has set up his own production company. The first venture was Kittram 23 which was eventually released in March 2017. The movie was well received by Tamil film fans and is Vijay’s most financially successful film today.
