Indian comedian Kanan Gill might be fairly new on the scene, but it hasn’t taken him long to make crowds laugh and cry at his unique comedy style. Having studied Computer Science, he joined a band as leader singer and began writing funny songs. As time progressed it wasn’t long until Gill realised that he wanted to pursue a career in comedy.
Before quitting his job, he tried his hand at stand-up and won the Punchline Bangalore competition and quickly followed it up with another win at Mumbai’s Comedy Store. It was then that Gill knew comedy was for him.
The comedian quickly gained popularity through his YouTube series Pretentious Movie Reviews in which Gill criticises Bollywood movies. The videos went viral and Gill became a hit. From here he moved on to Comedy Central with an improve sketch show, The Living Room.
2017 also saw the beginning of Gill’s acting career with a debut alongside Sonakshi Sinha in Noor, directed by Sunhil Sippy.
With comedy shows across India and further afield, Gill has established himself as one of the fastest rising talents on the Indian comedy circuit. Armed with a weird sense of humour, quick wit and hilarious relatability, he is a talent that looks here to stay.
