Dutch DJ and producer Armin van Buuren is one of the leading names in electronic dance music. Made famous through his weekly radio show, A State of Trance, van Buuren has released numerous singles, six albums, several awards, including a Grammy nomination, and has been named the DJ Mag No. 1 DJ for a record five times.
Having begun his career in 1996, van Buuren began putting out music and soon found himself at the centre of trance music. As the genre grew in popularity, van Buuren was a regular act on the DJing scene, performing around Europe. His albums, ‘76’ and ‘Shivers’ were well received, and he topped the Dutch Album Chart with his third album ‘Imagine’.
Following electronic music’s worldwide boom, van Buuren’s ‘Mirage’, ‘Intense’ and ‘Embrace’ albums were huge successes, charting around the world. Intense also included the single ‘This Is What It Feels Like’ with Trevor Guthrie which became one of the biggest hits of the year, as well as ‘Another You’ with Mr. Probz from the ‘Embrace’ album, which enjoyed similar success.
Known for his powerful live performances, van Buuren has been voted the World’s No. 1 DJ five times in the DJ Mag Top 100 poll, having first entered he Top Ten in 2002, as well as winning numerous International Dance Music Awards and DJ Awards. van Buuren has been the headline act at numerous festivals and clubs including Tomorrowland in Belgium and Privilege in Ibiza.
van Buuren’s A State of Trance radio show has been one of the largest influencers in trance and dance music throughout his career. The weekly show, which receives thousands of listeners, has helped contribute to the launch and development of many of trance music’s top acts and producers. The show has also become known for its yearly celebration shows, where many of the genre’s top DJs perform at shows around the world to thousands of fans in celebration of another 50 episodes.
