If you’ve been craving greenery, calm water, and a break from city traffic, a mangrove trip might be exactly what you need before summer fully begins. The UAE has plenty of quiet spots where you can kayak through mangrove trees, stroll along boardwalks beside turquoise water, and spot birds and sea life

Some locations are close enough for a half-day trip from Dubai, so you’ll still make it back for your evening plans. Others will pull you into peace and quiet for the whole day.

Ajman Mangroves (45 mins from Dubai)

Al Zorah Nature Reserve is one of the easiest escapes if you don’t want a long road trip. More than 100 species of birds, fish, and plants live in this area. Kayaking is one of the best ways to explore the narrow water channels between the trees.

Mangrove Marine National Park (1h 15 mins from Dubai)

Mangrove Marine National Park has around 75% of the UAE’s mangrove forest. You can walk along the waterfront, stop by Mangroves View Point and Eastern Mangroves Promenade for a few photos, or enjoy a kayak ride through the trees.

The park is open daily from 10 AM until 12 AM, so you come here for late afternoon or even evening visits.

Jubail Mangrove Park (1h 25 mins from Dubai)

If you’d rather stay on foot for part of the day, Jubail Mangrove Park in Abu Dhabi has one of the most scenic walking routes in the country. The 2km wooden boardwalk will take you through clear turquoise water and dense mangrove trees, allowing you to spot sea turtles, breeding fish, snails, Grey Herons, and mangrove periwinkles. You can book your experience below.

The park is open daily from 7 AM to 9 PM.

Jubail Mangrove Park offers kayaking tours if you want to head deeper into the mangroves with a guide.

Khor Kalba Mangrove Nature Park (1h 50 mins from Dubai)

The views here are definitely worth the longer drive. Mangrove trees grow up to 8 m tall and tower over the water. With the Hajar Mountains in the background, the whole place feels far from the usual UAE desert views.

Khor Kalba Mangrove Nature Park is open 6 days a week:

  • Tuesday to Thursday: 9 AM to 6:30 PM
  • Friday: 2 PM to 6:30 PM
  • Saturday to Sunday: 11 AM to 6:30 PM

Bonus: Al Reem Central Park

Al Reem Central Park in Abu Dhabi is a good stop if you want mangrove views without heading too far out of the city. The area is nice for a slow walk, sunset views, or just sitting by the water for a bit.

Want to get closer to the mangroves? Book a guided kayak tour and paddle through the water during the day or after dark.

With summer heat getting closer, there are probably only a few more good weeks left for long outdoor walks and kayaking trips without melting by midday. If you’ve been thinking about a road trip, now’s the time to book a kayak tour, plan your day, and finally check out some of the country’s best mangrove parks before summer fully takes over.
